6 of the Best April Fool’s 2018 Pranks

6 of the Best April Fool’s 2018 Pranks

Another April, another round of inane April Fool’s jokes. But hey, some of these companies really go out of their way to pull some pretty dope pranks, and for that, we’re thankful.

This year, Netflix purchased the rights to Seth Rogan (the person), shirtless Kylo Ren got an official “Swolo” costume, LEGO finally saved lives (instead of ruining them brick by brick), and more. Let’s jump in.

1. Netflix Announces Acquisition of Seth Rogan

“World-renowned Canadian person, prolific marijuana-doer, and winner of the 2015 MTV Movie Award for “Best Kiss” Seth Q. Rogen has entered into a lifetime deal to transfer full ownership of his personal autonomy to Netflix, Inc.”

We love this one. The faux press release here tells the story.

2. Roku Happy Streaming Socks

Roku knows that some of us are prone to getting a little… overzealous… during snack time, resulting in some seriously icky hands. So, why touch your remote or appliances when you can use your uber-convenient Roku socks to navigate your entertainment portals?

Swipe your foot to browse the home screen; tap your foot to select; click your heels to play; etc. This isn’t hilarious, per se, but the thing is, we kinda want these. Or at least, we don’t not want them. It’s perfect for the sloth in all of us.

3. Snapchat With the Epic Facebook Troll

ICYMI, Snapchat threw some serious shade at Facebook by releasing a one-day-only filter that placed a mock Facebook interface around any photo you snapped.

The UI trick included Cryillic-esque text that was designed to appear like Russian lettering—a distinct jab at the news that Russian bots were used in an attempt to influence the 2016 presidential election. In short, it’s effectively a hearty “SUCK IT ZUCKERBERG!” from Snapchat to FB.

More here, including screens of the UI trickery.

4. Kylo Ren: Supreme Leader Swolo

What do you do when it’s April Fool’s Day and you’re a Star Wars costuming group? Simple: You jump in on the craze and feature a costuming standard for a half-naked Kylo Ren.

Really. In a nod to all the hullabaloo over shirtless Kylo Ren (played by actor Adam Driver in the films), the international Star Wars costuming group, 501st Legion, created costuming standards for a topless Kylo Ren that they call “Swolo.” Glorious.

5. “I Don’t Speak English. I Speak American, Damn It!”

British companies like BritBox know us Americans can be the xenophobic type, so they’ve endeavored to make it easier for us to cope with their crazy, over-the-pond accents. Accordingly, the VOD service made a mock “Interp-Brit” feature for April Fool’s that toggles automatically between British and American accents. It’s everything you never knew you needed…

6. LEGO Basically Promised to Save People’s Lives

Death by LEGO block contributes to something like three million American deaths a year (don’t question us or our statistics, thanks). Now, FINALLY, our overlords at LEGO are stepping in to show mercy.

If only. While this VacuSort is definitely fake, it’s definitely needed. It would without a doubt save our feet—the fact that it sorts by brick and color is just icing on the cake.
