Well, spring’s officially here and you never made it out on the slopes. Guess you’re screwed, huh?
Nah.
There are a number of resorts that are fantastic for late-season shredding. Since you probably won’t have the time and/or resources to plan an international trip on short notice, we’re going to focus on some of the finest U.S.-based spring skiing/snowboarding destinations. Let’s go!
We figured we’d start local at one of our favorite spots and move from there.
Mammoth is known for late-season greatness. In fact, these Cali slopes are home to the Ezakimak Challenge on April 28, which engages participants in a 5K race from the base of the mountain all the way to its 11,053-foot peak. It can be performed on foot, wearing snowshoes, with cross-country skis, or via fat bike. More info. here!
Snowbird gifts boarders a 2,500-acre skiable area with a vertical drop of nearly 3,250 feet, not to mention a location only 30 miles from Salt Lake City International. Moreover, the north-facing slopes help keep the resort open well into late May. Dope! (Consider partaking in the spring tradition of racing the Snowbird tram from top to bottom.)
Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood’s south side is currently enjoying a base depth of 149 inches. It takes its spring skiing and boarding friggin’ seriously—you can snatch up their Spring Pass, designed to provide the most diehard (or simply most procrastinating) among you with unlimited spring skiing until May 28. Plenty of time to get your fix!
Bonus: Timberline Lodge was where “The Shining” starring Jack Nicholson was filmed.
193 marked skiing trails. 33 ski lifts. A vertical rise of 3,450 feet. A skiable area of 5,289 acres.
Yup, Vail is a definite spring standout. It currently still has a 56-inch base depth and the season there is vigorously celebrated—concerts, the World Pond Skimming Championships, and more are part of the “Spring Back to Vail” event

Known as “The King of Spring,” Maine’s Sugarloaf Mountain boasts the largest ski area east of the Rocky Mountains and the only snowfields in the East. Peeps here are known to ski throughout April, and the 30th Annual Bud Light Reggae Festival—providing a four-day bender of parties and music—kicks off April 12-15.
